Why effective line management matters
How a health concern is handled at an early stage can make a significant difference to employee wellbeing, attendance, morale and performance.
In 2024/25, work-related stress, depression and anxiety affected 964,000 workers and resulted in 22.1 million lost working days in Great Britain.
CIPD research also found that 63% of employees whose mental health had been negatively affected by work identified line managers not helping staff perform well as a contributing factor.
Supporting employees effectively can help reduce absence, improve engagement and retain experienced members of your team. Gallup’s research found that highly engaged teams achieve 18% higher productivity and 23% higher profitability.
