SOHAS is a registered charity (no.1085464) that was established in 1980. We are based in Sheffield city centre at Exchange Brewery. Our main objective is to provide support and advice for people whose health is affected by their work and to help and support them to keep their job. Our work is funded by Sheffield City Council, Sheffield IAPT, Sheffield Carers Centre and Macmillan Cancer Support. The service we provide is free and confidential and is accessible for anyone who lives and works in Sheffield.
The main aim of SOHAS is to keep people in work. We work with GP's, clinicians and employers to ensure that people are given practical and common sense advice and support to keep them in work.
We receive regular feedback about the services we deliver. A client who we recently gave advice and support to on a work related mental health condition said "The adviser was very friendly and supportive. They showed excellent listening skills and understanding to my problems and provided me with the right advice and information available."
We recently delivered a pilot on supporting stroke patients to return to work. A clinician who we worked with on the the pilot said "The pilot was an excellent example of working across services to achieve pragamtic patient centred outcomes"
SOHAS Advisers undergo specialist training and have extensive experience in providing advice on a wide range of work and health issues.
Appointments to see the advisors are available at our offices or at a GP surgery - the list of GP surgeries that the advisors have sessions at can be found here.
